In 1999 some R&D-research results were assembled in the first Flemish Indicatorbook on Science, Technology and Innovation. This challenging initiative has been re-acknowledged in a second publication, The Flemish Indicatorbook on Science, Technology and Innovation 2003, in which a first attempt towards adequate updating, coherence and continuity of information and data analysis has been made.

ECOOM will assume the task to further develop this continuity in data analysis, working on time series and systematically assembling survey and data results. The output will not only support government questions on R&D-proficiency in Flanders, but will also aim to supply adequate and up-to-date information on the European R&D-potential of the Flanders region. In april 2009 the newest version of this book was published.
