Koenraad Debackere holds M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering (1984) and Management (1985) from the university of Gent in Belgium. He obtained a Ph.D. in Management (1990) and worked as an ICM-fellow at the university of Gent (1987-1990) and a visiting Ph.D. student at MIT (1988-1990). From 1991 to 1992, he was a Fulbright-Hays Post-Doctoral Fellow at MIT. He was a FWO postdoctoral fellow from 1993 till 1996. In the period of 1992-1995, he was an assistant professor at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and became a visiting professor at K.U. Leuven in 1995. Since 1996, he is professor of technology and innovation management at K.U. Leuven and at the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School. He has been a visiting professor at various European universities and business schools.

In 1993 and 1995, he was awarded the Best Research Paper Award of the Technology Innovation Management Division of the American Academy of Management, and in 1997 he obtained the Best Research Paper Award from the Decision Sciences Institute for his work in the area of technology and innovation management.

He is a member of various professional societies and of the organizing committee of the EIASM New Product Development Conference, the European Doctoral Summer School on Technology Management and the RADMA Conference, as well as a member of the editorial board of the R&D Management Journal.

He is the promotor-spokesman of ECOOM.
