Flemish Indicatorbook

The Flemish Indicatorbook contains the policy indicators that shed a light on the Flemish potential in terms of science, technology and innovation. The Indicatorbook is being published every two years since 1999, coordinated by the Interuniversity Centre for Research and Development Monitoring (ECOOM).

Cognitive testing CIS 2013: Belgian findings

Awareness is growing at the EU and OECD level that the Community Innovation Survey, which is the most widely used international survey to collect firm innovation data and statistics, has a number of shortcomings. An important problem relates to the measurement and reporting of innovation expenditures. Within the Eurostat CIS Task Force, it was decided to cognitively test a revised version of this question. This presentation provides an overview of the Belgian findings and suggestions for the development of a new alternative version of the question.

The innovation concept: Results of scoping interviews with Flemish firms

Awareness is growing at the EU and OECD level that the Community Innovation Survey, which is the most widely used international survey to collect firm innovation data and statistics, has a number of shortcomings. Two important problems relate to (1) the definition of innovation, and how that fits with firms’ understanding and interpretation of the innovation concept, and (2) the measurement and reporting of innovation expenditures.

Cognitive testing CIS 2013: Methodological guidelines

Awareness is growing at the EU and OECD level that the Community Innovation Survey, which is the most widely used international survey to collect firm innovation data and statistics, has a number of shortcomings. An important problem relates to the measurement and reporting of innovation expenditures. Within the Eurostat CIS Task Force, it was decided to cognitively test a revised version of this question. This presentation provides guidelines for performing cognitive testing as derived from the existing scientific literature on this issue.
