Ghent University is the processor of the personal data processed in the context of the HRRF.

These data are pseudonymised. This means that the processor ECOOM Ghent cannot identify the data subjects in the database.

The pseudonymisation is carried out by Statistics Belgium, a recognized Trusted Third Party (TTP), that obtained the permission of the Sectoral Committee of the National Register to act as a TTP in this project. The data flow itself was authorized by the Sectoral Committee of the National Register (data from the KU Leuven and the VUB) and by the Flemish Supervisory Committee (data from UGent, UHasselt and the UA). Given the duration of the previous ECOOM contract, this authorization was valid until 31/12/2018. A new authorization is requested within the framework of the GDPR for the following period.

This data processing within the framework of the HRRF is necessary for scientific and policy-supporting research purposes. This research is conducted in the public interest, which means that it leads to an increase in knowledge and insight that benefits society (directly or indirectly). This also means that the results are made public.

All employees of Ghent University are bound by the "Generic Code of Conduct for Processing Personal Data and Confidential Information" for handling personal data.

Ghent University will store the pseudonymised data at least until the end of the study.

For the following aspects you can contact ECOOM Ghent who will take care of the further coordination:

  • Request to obtain additional information about the data processing.
  • Request to access the data stored about you.
  • Request to correct the data in case of erroneous or incomplete data. During the assessment of this request you have the right to limit the processing of your data.
  • Request to transfer data about you to yourself or to someone else.
  • Request to have data deleted about you, insofar as this does not jeopardizes the research, its validity and its objectives.

Finally, you also have the right to make a formal complaint to the Belgian supervisory authority responsible for enforcing data protection legislation about how your information is treated:
