According to regional and European policymakers, research and innovation play a crucial role in addressing major societal challenges. Research has more than an academic or economic impact, it has a broad social or societal impact that is, however, difficult to measure. The evaluation of this impact and outcome is important precisely in the rollout of new research strategies within the current social context. Therefore ECOOM Brussels is starting a line of research into a better understanding of and methods for measuring the social impact of research in all disciplines.
