ECOOM-Entrepreneurship-Ghent conducts various studies on the antecedents and consequences of sustainable behaviour in SMEs. For example, it was investigated whether (and under what circumstances) more information about sustainability can lead to less sustainable behaviour. It was also investigated whether sustainable behaviour in SMEs contributes to profitability or not. The advantages of sustainable behaviour (in terms of additional turnover and cost savings) only appear to outweigh the disadvantages (in terms of investments) if SMEs have the necessary knowledge in this area and can therefore make well-considered decisions. Other topics concern the impact of regulations and how these (either directly or via customers) can influence the sustainable behaviour of SMEs.
