Every two years, ECOOM-Entrepreneurship-Ghent maps the entrepreneurial culture in Flanders by means of a survey among a representative sample of approximately 1,000 inhabitants of Flanders. The survey includes aspects concerning the image of entrepreneurship among the Flemish people and the extent to which entrepreneurship is considered a valid career choice. The first steps in the entrepreneurship ladder and the motivations and thresholds with regard to entrepreneurship are also measured. Finally, ‘intrapreneurship’, i.e. entrepreneurship within established companies, is also mapped. The survey allows for a first set of indicators to be mapped that are internationally comparable with certain parts of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM). In addition, each edition focuses on a specific policy-relevant theme. In the past, this has provided more insight into the entrepreneurial competencies of the Flemish population and into the fear of failing as an entrepreneur.
